Subject: GL: Florida insurance
I called them because we wanted
to travel up to New York and they wrote a rider for that trip. $150 for two
months. I posed the question about returning to Florida for the winter. They
informed me that they would re-rate me at Florida rates and it would be
$6250!!
Randy Pickelman so noted his insurance problems. This reminds me of a posting a while ago regarding insurance ; one in which I suggested that changing one's insurance company runs many risks.
I changed from Boat US two years ago and that initiated my learning more about the insurance biz practices. Among those practices is one which "tracks" your inquiries. Although you may think that soliciting several agents is both safe and that you are practicing due diligence, DO NOT be surprised that by merely "pricing" is going unnoted. You see that I used "unnoted" as opposed to "unnoticed".
"Noticing" in one thing. "Noting " is quite another.
Also in the case of Boat US, they are?merely the salesperson. They are NOT the underwriter. More like a BIG insurance agent,?normally able to carry a big stick with an underwriter. BUT in this market with all sorts of shenagins going?on all over the place, it simply ain't what it used to OR ought to be.
You also might want to check the fine print on your policy. In my case I learned that Boat US was more liberal in most of its terms.
Randy, I woulda changed as you did. As previously stated, I had changed two years ago. What I have written is merely a "heads up" if you decide that you need to change insurers or even merely "price" again next year.
The practice of tracking and noting my inquiries is what I resent and? believe to be OR ought to be illegal with criminal prosecution consequences. I ?am not sure just which of my personal freedoms is in?jeopardy here BUT I believe that I have a certain freedom to negotiate without fear of any predetermination by some unknown "third party" ,aka, whoever is disseminating this privileged insurance information.
