Ahoy All:
After leaving Brunswick GA we entered Florida
waters early afternoon on Monday Dec. 17. First I had
to call my insurance agent to let them know; my boat
insurance went up more than 120% (pro-rated) as soon
as I hit the Florida border. Fernandina was the first
town we came to, just off the St. Marys River. We
anchored for the night in one of the numerous creeks
meandering through the marsh area. The temperature
got down to around 33 degrees at night, but it's a
"Florida" 33 so of course felt much warmer.
Tuesday we continued south, crossing the St. Johns
River and arriving in the St. Augustine area near
sunset. Couldn't find a good area to anchor near the
fort or the Bridge of Lions, so we went south of the
town and anchored just off the ICW for a quiet night.
Today we traveled only about 22 miles to Palm
Coast, where we're docked as guests of Ken and Rose
Caputo. Wonderful home and dock, gracious hosts who
can't seem to do enough for you. The marine growth is
so bad here that Ken has divers clean the bottom of
his boat once a month!
Tomorrow we'll stop at a marina in Daytona to pick
up forwarded mail. Don't know yet where we'll spend
the night, but if we continue south at a reasonable 50
miles per day we'll reach our destination in the Keys
in about another week.
Weather was great today - t-shirt and shorts - and
boat and crew are holding up nicely.
