GL: Dock Line Throwing

If you don't have or don't care to fashion a 4'eye in the end of a dock
line, is it ok to just tie a big loop on a bowline, snug it up good, and
toss that? Actually, I've done this with some success although my rodeo
skills are still developing. Even better the double-figure8 which adds heft
to the loop.

My favorite method for line tosses came from Charles Culotta, Esq. Take
about half your throwing line in one hand, half in the other. Be sure to
hold onto the ends with a couple of fingers. Toss the entire thing
underhanded, like an underhanded basketball toss over whatever you are
trying to loop. Once it's over, you can either use it like that, or pass the
bitter end through the loop and ZIP! you have a secure connection and the
bitter end on your boat so you can control the boat yourself.
You'd be amazed at how many "ooohs" and "aaaahs" you get doing this. People
who've never seen this done think it's magic! You'd also be surprised at how
far away you can loop a piling, cleat, etc., given enough line. I have some
of those long lines with 4' eyes, also per Charles' recommendation.
If you haven't checked out his web site, you really should:
