Henry,

Lots of people remember the Red Right Returning phrase, but forget
the second part which is:  "From the Sea or Going Upstream"  BTW one
of the reasons that the black buoys were changed to Green is because
they can be remembered as Green Going.

On the East Coast and Gulf ICW, if can get confusing because of all
the inlets to the ocean and gulf, but simply remember that if
Brownsvill, TX is your home, it is Red Returning all the way (look
for the yellow squares or triangles in the ICW day markers.
