It will all depend on the lock traffic. You have about a half dozen locks
to get through and pleasure craft are at the bottom of the pecking order.
Ive waited five minutes and about 4 = hours for a lock. The last time I
went down it was 4 days but we were in a boat that could run 20kts when
possible. You cant (make that I wouldnt ever) travel at night on the
river. Be aware that the buoyage changes once you are in a ways (I dont
have a chart handy before/near Joliet??) You are red/right/returning from
Lake Michigan and then it becomes r/r/r only from the GULF of MEXICO and you
are STILL in NORTHERN ILLINOIS!
I dont know when you are going but be weve had a huge amount of rain the
last few days so currents may be REAL interesting. There will also be lots
of debris in the rivers too.
