Good afternoon Fred,
I have a great deal of time, respect and patience for those who protect us
-being in a specialized aspect of the task.
However, when it becomes apparent that I'm dealing with a full tilt bozo
who's either too self absorbed with their own perceived importance or too
stupid to understand the reality of what they're doing, that goes out the
proverbial window. They're doing more harm than good.
If you don't complain to their supervisors; they'll just continue doing
damage.
One favourite example was from Goose Bay Labrador. A USAF E-3 AWACS was
deploying for the first Gulf war, had an in-flight emergency and was forced
to land in the Goose. Customs agent's first 2 questions were "Do you have
any weapons?" and "do you have any drugs?" Well, since the aircrew had all
been issued sidearms and atropine injectors, the answer to both was "Yes".
So at that point, this guy decides he's going to seize and impound the
aircraft!
The aircrew of course objected and because this guy had no sense - common or
otherwise, they were well on the way to an international incident.
About that time the Canadian Wing Commander got called and he had the
Customs agent escorted off the base with instructions never to return.
