GL: Can one avoid Canada?

Good morning,

It's possible to run across some puffed up popinjay in a position of minor
authority who does their best to ruin your day anywhere. Wasn't that long
ago, we were having a long discussion about everyone's favourite Florida
water cop.

Problem is that too few people take the time to complain to their
tormentor's supervisors. Once it starts to go downhill, it's best to pull
out a piece of paper and start recording facts - name, date, time, etc.
Remain polite, but don't get pushed around. Interesting to see the reaction
when you insist they call in the RCMP. Had to do that more than once when
travelling on military business and some Customs fool at the airport decided
he was going to look inside the sealed container I was couriering.

I would be extremely interested to hear from others if this is their
experience. I have a friend who did this very thing two weeks ago
and was rewarded with a very intense inspection. He was berated for
filling out the paperwork beforehand (for a shotgun). If any others
have firsthand experience I'd like to hear it, as I may bypass Canada
as well.
