We have added a TNT platform in order to carry our dingy on the stern and it
blocks the vessel name on the transom. We had a life ring painted with our
boat name in 4 inch letters on top and home port on bottom. It hangs in a
place that can clearly be seen from the rear.
This was not done to meet CG regulations but to let following boats know who
we were if they wanted to hail us to pass or in case of a problem or
emergency. Anything that helps boats communicate with each other on the water is
important for safe boating. That is probably the reason for the CG requirement
in the first place.
