Firearms kill people, they were originally designed to kill people,
and they have been refined over the centuries to do that job more
efficiently, please remember, we are talking about a device that
kills people, as in dead, gone forever, not getting up and walking
away. They also maim people, horribly. In today's society, where TV,
movies and video games portray firearms being used casually and
frequently, with no "real" effects, some folks tend to think that
life is like that.

Jack's commentary should be amended to state that firearms are a tool
than can be used to kill and maim people, but, in and of itself, a
firearm is innocuous. It must have a user. Users include good, as
well as bad, people.

I have had guns (rifles, hanguns, and shotguns) in my home for some
fifty years. None of them has ever killed or maimed people.

As one person responded to a female anti-gun proponent who had
accused him of being negligent for equipping adolescents with the
ability to use fireams: "You are equipped to be a prostitute, but
that does not mean that you are one".
