GL: Avoiding State Sales tax---Maryland

I planned to and did leave my boat in Maryland for the winter last yr.
I called and spoke to the lady in charge of the sales and use tax dept. 
explain that I merely wanted to store my boat for the winter  in Maryland.
 She was very nice and told me that I had nothing to worry about. That they 
are not preying on people like me. That they are after the people from 
surrounding states who "hide" their boats in Md. to avoid taxes in Va. and 
the like.

She went on to suggest that I note her name and ph no and to refer any 
officer who question me to her.

The boat was near Baltimore in a yard and never a problem.
She told me that they have one agent on that duty.
