GL: Can one avoid Canada?

We don't have to be armed to be safe in Canada, yet. Although with the gun loving US to the south of us the number of stolen/smuggled handguns are making some of the larger cities here small versions of gang filled LA, NY, etc.
And on the water you don't need a gun as we don't have the red necks here that you have there.
Perhaps one of you can give me the Reader's Digest version of your understanding of our "oppressive" gun laws.
Ah, the hell with it, why am I discussing this someone who needs a gun as a pacifier.
