GL: calculating leverage

Hello Loopers,
I just bought a large LCD monitor for my old eyes.  Along with it I bought a
multi-directional wall mount hanger.  While the directions indicate 180
degrees of swivel, the size of the screen reduces that to about half, which is
not satisfactory.  I can get a neighbor to help make a bracket that will allow
the wall to extend out.  I already know that as something extends further from
the wall, the leverage pull on the wall screws becomes more significant.  What
I don't know is what the relationship is and how to determine it.  Can some of
you guys please give me some input here.  Thanks, Sue
