GL: Cuba

Dave,

I just followed your link to the executive order .. that sounds quite
scarey! Being a Canadian citizen, I am theoretically welcome in Cuba, but I
reside in NJ and have a state registered boat... that Order sounds like they
could confiscate my boat even if I had gone to Cuba in a storm.

Yepper, I
am liking the Erie Canal better every day!

IF you are a US
Citizen or have a US Documented boat I would suggest
strongly that you forgo
the temptation to visit. The US Consulate in Havana
routinely is taking
photos of all the boats in the harbors. These are so
they can keep records of
who has visited.

Presidents Bush's Executive Order
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/02/20040226-11.html

He renewed
this again in Feb of 2007 basically gives the US the right to
confiscate ANY
boat that has been in Cuban waters and enters the US. No ifs,
buts or why's
necessary. All up to the discretion of Homeland Security.

In addition the
travel ban for US Citizens is being enforced sporadically by
the US. Witness
the recent fines of the travel arrangers, Travelocity and
American Express
plus the letters that travelers receive after
returning......

We've been
there and would love to return but just can't take the risk of
losing our
boat and the fines/harassment that would accompany it.

As always YMMV....
