Fred and all,
That's a HUGE change for BoatUS from what I was told in the spring. We have
lived in Fla. since the late '50's and have boated there and insured with
BoatUS for over 30 years. Flash back to 2006. Our premium in Fla. was about
$2400/yr. When we left for the Chesapeake they lowered our premium to ~$1300.
This year it was raised to ~$1500 with limits of navigation of the Chesapeake,
Pamlico and Albemarle Sound. I called them about adding NY for a couple of
months, which they did for $150. When I broached the subject of spending the
winter in the Keys I was told that they would have to re-rate me. Anticipated
premium was in excess of $6,000!!! I'm going shopping this fall.
