Diesel fuel at Frankfort Municipal was $3.12 on 8/1.

Diesel at Manistee Municipal is $3.11 on 8/3



Anchored out in Portage Lake yesterday since Lake Michigan was blowing hard.
Avoid this lake for anchoring: it is full of water skiers and salmon
fisherman, both of whom have no clue about wake laws.  We were buzzed
constantly by people towing kids on plastic toys, at high speed and very
close to our boat.  The fishermen leave Portage Lake at high speed at 5 am
and throw almost continuous high wakes.  The marinas are mostly for
fisherman and go-fast boats.  We marked a depth of 8.5 feet in the center of
the channel just at the entrance.



Manistee, however, is wonderful and the no wake zone is respected by all the
fisherman.  The municipal marina has free wi-fi and is, like most Municipal
harbors in Michigan, $1.00 per foot.  If you think a Michigan harbor you
want to go to will be crowded, call 1-800-447-2757 to make a reservation
with Michigan DNR: they will want a credit card number and your vessel's
name, if is documented, or a state ID number.  This service costs $8 per
reservation and has various conditions about cancellation which they will
explain on the phone.
