Since we are talking about single handing through canal locks, I thought
everyone would like to know that at least some of the Canadian canals
require two people. We were on the Richlieu last summer. A single handed
sailboat was required to take on a crew (needed at least two people on
board) to go through the locks. Fortunately there were a couple of
bicyclers on the pathway. They volunteered to become the crew: they loaded
up their bikes and had a nice ride down the canal.
