Dear Craig. Valentine has been the entire length of the Erie, Oswego, and Cayuga/Senica canals, the lockmasters will let you single hand, you will need extra large fenders and a strong midships cleat. If you can handle a line and the controls at the same time twin screws and/or a bow thruster can be used to help you hold position. Tell the lockmaster that you are single handing, and request the lock location with the least turbulance. Be prepared for port or starboard tie. We have not done any of the Champlain canals however. Please be awear of the "potti police" on lake Champlain, and the need to disconnect hoses for overboard discharge of sewage (black water). Sincerely, Jon.

I have never been thru the canal system and was
wondering if I could do it without crew. I have a
31ft Hatteras cruiser with wide passageways on both
sides.
