GL: Portable Ice Maker

Kevin and Lists:

We used the portable ice maker by Magic Chef, bought at The Home
Depot, www.tinyurl.com/3xcgh4 (click or "ice makers"), and couldn't
have been happier with it. Actually, we bought two after we broke
the first one by mistreating it. The unit functioned flawlessly for
the full year we were on the Loop.

We kept the unit under the bimini enclosure on the flying bridge,
plugged in to a 110v outlet for the entire year. The unit draws
about 4 amps, so our 2500 watt inverter handled it easily. We only
ran the unit about 4-8 hours per day and never bought a bag of ice
all year! We used filtered water (just because we wanted to) and
would store the ice in the freezer part of our Norcold refrigerator
until we needed it. We kept a 52 quart cooler full of beverages and
food chilled, as well as providing ice for drinks and some additional
for our sailboat friends!

Hands down, it was the most appreciated item on the boat! And, at
$200, you could throw it away if it broke and buy another one (like
we did). Lot's better price than the permanent ones at $1000 or so.

No affiliation with the store or the manufacturer -- just very, very
happy customers.
