Chuck,

We live in Louisiana , just off the Atchafalaya River a branch of the Miss. 
River.
I strongly suggest that you go up the Tenn.-Tom as the Miss current will all 
but stop your boat no
matter what mo. you go up.The current is about 4mph, do the math!!!!!
I speak from experience. See an article on my web site about our Southern 
Circle Cruise. We went fr here to Mobile Bay and up the Tenn.-tom to the 
Ohio and then DOWN the Miss to not go 300 miles up stream  to the Arkansas 
River.
In my article you will see that there are darn few stops on the Miss. and 
even less fuel. Coming down the (Lower) Miss. is a nice trip, in fact I 
liked it for the lack of development. From Cairo down are two marinas, 
Memphis and Greenville, Ms. that is it.
