Yes Bob,
We propably are going to buy a Macgregor within the next year or so. We have
put a lot of research into this, and we have found
more good than bad, with the boats. We think it will suit our needs.
 Yes you are right , I have more experience as a power boat operator than
sailor. I own a 17' hybird sailboat that I designed and built.
I call it hybird, because like the macGregor it also runs on power, electric
power, and like a hybird car it recharges when its running under sail. We have
a few years before retirement, so Joanne and I plan to improve our sailing
skills.
 If I were in Mobile Bay in the weather you describe, I would have enjoyed a
day at anchor. Catching up the logbook, drinking hot coffee with a shot of
spiced rum.
 As far as Joanne , I wish to keep her safe and comfortable, but shes not the
type to quit going on adventures with me because
she pops a sweat or breaks a nail. We have many years and many boat miles
together, sometimes some more dangerous than others. Joanne looks up to and
admires people like Bill And Ell.
 From what I have read keeping the ballast tank full ALL the TIME will prevent
a capsize.

You are obvioulsy going to do what you want to do--If you live near Mobile
Bay, I wonder how you would have enjoyed the MAcgregor 26 today--with 25 to 30
knots out of the SE on the ICW, with some heavy rain squalls of up to 1/2" an
hour?

I would like to see the documentation that more sailboats have done the loop
than power boats.  Who ever told you that is badly mis-informed.

I wish you well--and hope that you wife does have the fortitude to endure the
loop in a Macgregor 26.  It can be done, but I think it is a mistake.  I
suspect that you have little if any experience in a sail boat.  Just don't get
caught out in that strom in the Macgregor and have it capsize on you--and
loose your or your wife's life.
