Sandy:
More than your two week trial plan, I think you will benefit by an extended
study of reading by those who are doing the Loop and those who have already
done it. Subscribing to this email list is a good place to start. I also
suggest you and your husband read passagemaker.com message board
extensively. There you will find a wealth of informaition on all aspects of
long term cruising (which is what the Loop really is, unlike your two week
short term cruise). You will get good advice and info on boat
characteristics, how to set up your electrical systems, engine maintenance,
how to get your mail, Internet connectivity, etc. that you will not have to
encounter in your two week initial trial. I have been reading that message
board for a few months now and am very glad for the information I have
learned about trawlers and the lifestyle. I am not new to boating but have
never had the opportunity in my life to be able to do long term cruising, as
I have always had to work and with minimal vacation time. My plan is to do
the Loop when I retire in 5 years and so I have started my quest for
complete understanding of it.
The best condition you can be in when you start the trip is fully informed
about as many aspects of the trip as possible.
R.
