I have just returned last night from Narragansett Bay and the Newport area
where I have put my boat up for the winter in Barrington, RI. We got caught
on the south side of the Erie Canal when it closed and decided to make
southern New England and Maine our destination instead of continuing on the
Loop. We will continue in May of next year to finish the Loop.
You will really like that area and strongly recommend you visit. The
cruising is terrific and the WOW factor is high when you see all the
beautiful boats that visit there. The costs are much higher than many other
areas but you also are getting good facilities and amenities. And don't
forget the amazing cruising and the absence of the ICW-shallow water...big
areas with deep, well marked water.
There is too much to cover in an e-mail but would be happy to discuss the
area offline. Give me a shout and we can go from there.

Hello all,
I have just purchased a sailboat in Ft. Lauderdale I will be sailing
it back to Lake Michigan this next Spring.
I draw 8.5' so the Intercoastal is not an option I believe.
We are thinking we will run outside and end up in Newport for a stay,
then take the St. Lawrence so I don't have to step the rig for the
Erie canal.
I will appreciate any advice and info regarding this.
Thanks,
Curt Crain
