GL: MacGregor (was: What's the Difference?)

The cabin of a Macgregor is Spartan at best, but we think we can make it
comfortable, by installing some of the basics ourselves, such as a shower, and
refrigeration.
What we like most about the boat, is that its the best of both worlds.
A powerful outboard, but the ability to sail.
The outboard can outrun a storm, and recharge batteries, while it can also
sail for free.
We have been told its not that great of a sailboat, but life is a compromise.

Look long and hard at that craft. A friend has one
and his opinion is that it is okay for day sailing, but
you wouldn't want to try to live on it with its VERY
limited capability for amenities.

With us also, when we retire, and start the loop , its going to be on a very
tight budget.
A boat we are seriously considering as our looping retirement home, is a
26'
Macgregor. Its a
trailerable , shallow draft , sailboat, that can take up to a 50hp outboard
motor.
The Macgregor will plane out and run 22 mph or can be sailed. So you have a
motor for when you need it and for battery charging, but you can also take
advantage of free energy when sailing conditions are right.
With just a 50hp outboard motor, miles per gallon ought to be outstanding.
