I have been a USAA member since 1961. If USAA treats
its boating insurance customers in similar manner to those
members who wish to insure their motorcycles, I would go
elsewhere.
I don't believe USAA knows (or cares) much about other
than homeowner, auto, or various life insurance programs.
I use Drive (by Progressive) for our motorcycles and Boat/US
for our boats.

A thread on T&T inspired me to call my agent, USAA General Agency, to see
what Markel American (my carrier) was doing about boats wanting to go to
Florida. I plan to leave the upper Tenn Tom in December to go to Fort Myers
for a
few months. Whether I stay over during hurricane season is up in the air.
I was informed that Markel is not covering any windstorms in
Florida...hurricanes included...no matter when it occurs. I have seen
several major Florida
windstorms in non-hurricane season, so this won't do at all.
I told them that I would not accept Markel's policy and would start looking
now. USAA said that they are actively looking for additional carriers but so
far they have not found any that will offer a decent policy. One would
think
that they have enough financial clout to have companies clamoring to their
door.
