Curt:
I completely agree with Dave Cooper. I suggest you truck the boat up to
Michigan. You will get it there a whole lot sooner, giving you the time to
work on it and get it ready for your use. Even if the cost is higher, its a
far safer way to go.

You cant even think about ICW in the New Jersey area with an 8.5' draft
boat. Bridge heights are typically 60' but there is on in Atlantic City that
is only around 30' or so (I live there), so that completely eliminates
sailboats of any live abord size from ICW from LE Inlet to Absecon Inlet.
Minimum ICW depths here are 5ft or so at low tide in many places. Its
certainly no better outside of the channel...we call it "clam digging." Your
trip being an ocean only trip will likely take you much longer than you
think if you go up the coast as wind and weather will hit you.

You will have far less coordination work if you truck the boat than if you
try to sail it up. Its not easy getting a crew for a long trip like that,
and you will need many people to make the trip. I doubt you could find 2
more people with the time to dedicate to that trip.

R.
