I have crossed from the Florida West Coast to the panhandle 11 times. I have
crossed from the panhandle to the West Coast of Florida one time. Most trips
were uneventful. During summer they were a daytime run and in the winter an
overnighter. The roughest trip was last December from Tarpon Springs to
Carrabelle. My wife was not on the boat. She has made one crossing eastbound on an
overnighter that was not smooth but not bad. She will not go across again.
She has just finished her self imposed community service to the Catholic Church
for getting me and my buddy safely across last December.
We are going back to south Florida next December and she is attempting to
get me to promise not to cut straight across but to do the rim...St. Marks,
Steinhatchee, etc. She tells me that if I goose the boat up to 10kts that I can
do it all in daylight trips. Along the route we would wait out weather and
sightsee a little. She and my buddy's wife will be following us along the coast
in the car. The boat draws 4'.
What do you think? Should I give in?
