Hello All,

Demopolis is far outside the 50 mile hurricane danger zone. For transportation to Birmingham airport or any other misc. need, call Patty Hartley Carnly at 334-507-0928. She doesn't have a business doing this, but she does what she can to help. She has been up and down the River more then anyone I know other then the tow captains. She ended up marrying a lock master on the river.

As far as the crossing from Apalachicola, most people wait in Apalachicola for several boats to gather and cross together, staying a few hundred yards apart. When I crossed, I left so as to be in the middle of two groups of boats crossing. You will have VHF coverage with the Coast Guard out of Indian Town the whole way to Clearwater Pass if you go straight across. After all the storms in the past 3 years, there are shallows where it should be deep, and deep holes where it should be shallow. Don't risk loosing your boat on this crossing by hugging the coast. The safer path is from Government Cut south of Apalachicola, direct to Clearwater pass. Plan to leave at noon to arrive at Clearwater Marina around mid-morning for a good slip. If you make 7 knots, it will take about 25 hours, so let the captain have a nap mid-day. There are many dolphins across the route. Watch for Logger Head turtles from mid crossing all the way to Clearwater. There is a danger zone on the
route where the Air Force launches drones and fighters shoot them down. We saw one first hand.

Enjoy the crossing. This will be the most beautiful sky at night most people will ever see.

  Captain Kev
