GL: Cell phone Amplifiers

My pervious post asking about others experiences with Cell Phone Repeaters
  needs to be corrected. I should have said "amplifiers" as I am interested in 
  trying to increase my cell phones ability to pick up stronger signals while in 
  areas where towers are so far apart.
   
  But my question still is how was the external antenna grounded? Was a
  seperate grounding wire run from the mounting bracket or was an antenna
  with an enternal grounding system used?
