Buddy and I crossed our own wake today as we came into Pensacola bay. We
were joined by my brother, Bill, as he came out to our anchorage in his Whaler
and rode in with us. It has been an unforgettable trip. I have seen the reefs
of the Keys, swamps, rock cliffs, endless Michigan beaches, Lady Liberty,
sunrises filtering through the trees, early morning fog rising from the river while
deer were drinking at the edge, huge barge tows, countless beautiful sunsets,
and on and on.. We covered 5900 statute miles in 10 months. It is
exhilarating and sad to have completed this challenge.
I will have the boat back home in, Tampa, by Christmas and I will get her
cleaned up, painted and ready to sell to some lucky looper to be. It has been a
great boat and I have had no trouble handling this 48' boat alone.
I was told before I left that the people I meet would be the greatest gift of
doing the loop. I agree. To all of my fellow loopers I thank you for your
friendship and I hope to continue keeping in touch for years to come. To those
wanting to do this trip -- Please just do it.............
