I know this is off the subject, but every time I hear of someone completing
the GL or even just a part of the old MISS. I think of my grandfather. He has
passed away in 89 and I miss him so much. We used to go cat fishing every
Sunday at 6am off Campbells Island Illinois. I know it is way north of the
Illinois river (and the loop) but I just can't help but to remember. I wish I
could be part of the cruising family. I am sure that in time I will and when I
pass our area and his old house I will anchor in front of his house and take a
sad memory trip. I will give a toast to the greatest man I ever knew. You
need to understand that this man was such an inspiration in my life that I carry
all the lessons that I have learned from him through my life to this day. If
I could change anything I would have taken more time to be with him and sit
on the river with him and fish. Everything I have learned about my life on
the river came from him. I have had an urge and a pull to the river since.
Maybe it is to keep his memory alive in me. To hold on to something that
actually meant something to me. I wish I could be where you people are and someday I
will take the trip to bring back his memory.
>From me to you, Remember your time on the river, you will always have a
desire that will never be matched ever again. Your memories you will carry
forever. Say what you mean NOW and don't hold back, you may never have the chance
to say what you mean to the person you share this time with. Too this I say
Hope your trip goes well and always remember where you come from.....Mike
