GL: Lectrasan vs. Purasan question

Hi Everyone,

My wife, Nancy, and I have recently bought a 1987 Defever 44, ex "Shibumi",
now "Salty Turtle", and plan to start the Great Loop next spring from
Oriental, NC. The boat came with one head using a holding tank and one head
using a Lectrasan unit. The electrodes in the Lectrasan unit need replacing
to the tune of about $250. A friend has suggested that instead of a
Lectrasan unit, that we replace it with a Purasan unit because so much of
the Loop is in fresh water and the Lectrasan requires salt being added. Has
anyone had experience with the Purasan units? I am fully aware that Canada
doesn't approve of either. Any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your feed back and we look forward to meeting many of
you on the Loop.

Thanks,

Steve Schrimsher
