Peter,
We installed a Raymarine C120 before we left for the Chesapeake from Florida
in the spring. It was an expense that we were willing to take on for the peace
of mind. In truth, we haven't used the radar much and definitely could have
done without it-something that we knew going in. However, we got a chart
plotter in the bargain and that has been great. We had been using a laptop
hooked to a GPS before the C120 but the Raymarine's daylight-viewable screen
has been superior. I'd do it again, especially since we are contemplating New
England and Maine next year.

With regards to staying connected, it is important to me since I still own a
business and it helps me in that regard. We purchased a Verizon Wireless
Broadband aircard. The monthly cost is about $50. We have been absolutely
thrilled with it. There are portions of NC that don't have good cell coverage
but other than that, it has been exceptional. Again, I'd do it again.
Regards,
Randy Pickelmann
