GL: Garmin Chartplotter Chips

I have a Garmin 3010C and a Garmin 3205C on a grand banks 32. The 3205 has
preprogrammed charts for most of the loop. The units are networked together
and the 3010 shares the preprogrammed charts with out even being turned on.

I use the chart plotter extensively on the rivers of the loop, but have not
reached the ones you mentioned. We have come from Lake Superior and down to
Columbus MS on the Tenn-tom.

The Tenn-tom is not included in the pre programmed data in the new 3200
series of Garmin Chart plotters, but the Tennessee, Little Tennessee,
Tellico and the other loop rivers were all there. I am using Coastal
Explorer on the Tenn-tom and as a backup for my Garmin.

There are areas on the western side of the loop where the water is a mile
wide with only a few hundred feet of navigation available. The chart
plotter shows were the "sail line" is on the water and where you are
relative to it. I also use the radar overlay on my chart plotter to tell me
how far off the GPS charts are from reality. It has been helpful also when
we ran into fog.

When we came back down the Tennessee River to the Wilson lock, we opted to
to a night locking because of the backlog of traffic. The combo of GPS
Chartplotter with radar overlay was great to run the channel down to
Florence, AL.
Just for the practice with an observer I ran about 10 miles of the Little
Tennessee strictly on Chartplotter/radar. Really would work if you needed
it.

Have any of you Great Loopers used a Garmin Chartplotter in your travels up
the coast of New Jersey and then up the Hudson on part of your trip? Is the
chartplotter useful on the river portions of the trip?

Thanks in advance.
