Paul and list,

I am sure that most Chart Plotters are useful on the Great Loop, but
like Computer Charts not readably available for Canadian waters
(Rideau, Trent-Severn and North Channel of the Georgian Bay).

We found Computer Charts with the Great Loop (USA waters already
having course lines) available from Soft Chart International and
using the Nobeltec visual navigation suite to be much better and then
for the Canadian waters using the NDI digital electronic charts.

The computer charts are most helpful in knowing exactly where you are
because they give the Lat. / Lon. right on the screen. That said,
one must always use and know where they are on paper charts as
electronics have been known to fail.

The software and charts are available to members of the Americas
Great Loop Cruisers Association at a substantial discount. Members
also advertise used charts, etc. at about 1/2 the regular cost after
they have completed the Loop. AGLCA website is:
<www.greatloop.com>. The association also has an email subscriber
list for members who are actually doing the Loop to pass information
forward and back and in many cases cruise together with other members.
