"Broadband style" cards because I have not determined if I can use
any of
them with the DA4000."

Ken, go to www.digitalantenna.com and look at their catalog. In the
back is a list of adaptors for all the cards. You will obviously want
to get a card that has an external antenna connection.
Amplifying increases your data throughput speed. 250k is half what
one should expect from EVDO, so an amp will help.

For some reason Verizon is not enthusiastic about tethering phones
for use as modems; they charge high prices and speeds are slower.
This may be in part due to the limitations of CDMA technology.
GSM high speed phones( offered in this country, by Cingular right
now), can make great modems and you can use the voice and data sides
simultaneously. The cost for data connect is lower too, as it becomes
a 40 dollar add on to a voice plan.

Disclaimer: divisions of my company are in one case a wholesale
distributor of Digital Antenna (amongst other signal enhancement and
cellular equipment, including CDMA and GSM vendors) and in another a
reseller of Cingular-based cell service.

George
