Well, terminology is getting us here... a blog is a web site... its just
a specialized format that is "popular" at the moment. Normally a blog is
a site geared toward posting short, usually frequent articles or
postings. These little blurbs may or may not really be that short, but
the idea is usually more short articles in a chronological order (time
based).

A more traditional web site will just have multiple pages arranged in
whatever order the web designer choose (often location based, or event
based for boat sites).

There are several services that can provide you a free or low cost
hosting environment. These include sites to do blogs or full webs or a
combination.

Another thing that boaters often want is a "gallery" for making larger
numbers of pictures available online, separate of the text narrative.
That's your choice... again, many ways are available to do this.

As a disclosure, I host some sites (some free and some for pay) as a
side business. I would be willing to host some people as a way to "give
back" a little to the community if anybody wants to live on my server
instead of one of the other choice given in these threads. If you want
more involved hosting, I can do that to, for a fee :-)

Whatever you decide to do, keep backups! Keep them on your own machine!
Do NOT trust ANY hosting provider to not "go away" and shut down with no
warning, taking your pictures and logs/narratives with them. If you have
a copy, you can just upload it to a new provider and keep going.

Please let me know if anybody has questions that I can help with in this
area.

Bruce
